Mercedes-Benz unveils GLE facelift in SUV, coupe and AMG variants

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the all-new GLE facelift internationally in SUV, Coupe, and AMG versions. This is the second facelift for the fourth generation. The revision includes 3,000 new or revised components, with changes to the powertrain and mechanicals. The German brand has updated the engine options for the GLE facelift with mechanical refinements.

The range-topper GLE 580 has a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, with an output of 537 hp and 750 Nm of torque. The GLE 450 is powered by a 3-litre inline-six that continues to make 381 hp, but the torque has increased by 60 Nm to 560 Nm. Updates include a more powerful electric motor, an auxiliary compressor, an improved cylinder head with revised intake and exhaust ports, and a modified intake camshaft.

The previous four-cylinder unit in the plug-in hybrid GLE 45e has been replaced with an inline-six, producing 75 hp more than before. The brand claims it delivers “even smoother gear changes and an even more refined driving experience.” The GLE now has an all-electric range of 105 km.

Diesel variants

The output of the diesel variants remains unchanged. The GLE 350d and GLE 450d now get an electric heating catalyst that helps reduce emissions by bringing the exhaust system up to operating temperature faster. The engine block and cylinder head are made of aluminium to reduce front axle weight and improve handling. These engine options are shared across the GLE SUV range and Coupe versions.

The AMG versions

The AMG versions will be available with both mild-hybrid and PHEV powertrain options. The mild-hybrid AMG GLE 53 uses a 3-litre inline-six turbo petrol engine with 48V mild-hybrid assist, producing 449 hp and 600 Nm of torque. The mild-hybrid system adds 23 hp and 205 Nm.

The plug-in hybrid pairs the six-cylinder unit with a 184 hp, 480 Nm electric motor. As per Mercedes, the combined output of this powertrain is 585 hp and 750 Nm, enabling a claimed top speed of 250 kph and a 0–100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds.

Changes to the interior

Mercedes has left no stone unturned to update the new GLE’s cabin. For the first time, it gets the MBUX Superscreen, which comprises a 12.3-inch display on the dashboard. It also features the recently launched Mercedes-Benz Operating System. The steering now has rocker and roller buttons. The AC vents on both sides of the Superscreen are now oval and feature ambient lighting. The AMG versions also get flat-bottomed steering wheels. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, climate control, a wireless charger, and powered front seats.

Exterior styling changes

While the new GLE retains the silhouette of the outgoing model, it has plenty of new styling updates. The front grille now has multiple tri-star elements, along with an illuminated surround and illuminated Mercedes logo. The GLE SUV gets side steps, while the Coupe does not. Both versions have 20-inch alloy wheels.

The AMG trim has an AMG-specific grille and larger alloy wheels that go up to 22 inches.

Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV and GLE Coupe facelifts are expected to arrive in international markets by the end of 2026.
