Is Nissan bringing the Patrol to India? Global strategy update and lineup changes revealed

Is the Patrol SUV a part of Nissan's veritable resurgence plans for India? will the famous patrol market it to India soon. In a recent report, Autocar India posed the question to the Chief Performance Officer at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., who confirmed that the company is keen to explore options within the allowed homologation-free import limit of 2,500 passenger vehicles annually to India.

The performance officer told Autocar, “CBU is an option, and yes, we want to have some spice for India, so we are looking at some of our iconic models.”Thierry Sabbagh, Divisional Vice President and President, Middle East, KSA, CIS, said that Nissan has spoken to its dealer partners about the possibility of the Patrol’s market introduction, and they are excited about it. He further added that CBUs are being looked into. The statement comes in the aftermath of a trial to retail imported X-Trails, which did not work out in the brand’s favour.

He further added that rather than chasing a target price, they would bring in a well-equipped model and offer a compelling and capable product that would reflect the Patrol’s badge value.

He further mentioned how Nissan wants to stay in the Indian market and do well. Along with the launch of the all-new X-Trail as well as the Juke, Nissan wants to bring in a new structured plan for internal management  that would help them stay buoyant. For India, that translates to an increase in dealers and customer touchpoints.

On the global front, CEO Ivan Espinosa has pointed out how the brand plans to reduce its global manufacturing footprint and cut its global workforce by 15%. Despite the tensions in the Middle East, the brand remains adamant about increasing sales in the region. The automaker has been routing vehicles to ports in Sri Lanka, Singapore, and China before shipping them to Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia for onward transport.

Nissan also plans to introduce a compact car series in Japan from the 2028 financial year. In a statement, the brand has also mentioned that it would reduce its lineup from 56 models to 45, and would target annual sales of 1 million vehicles each in the US and China by the 2030 financial year, and grow its annual sales volume in Japan to 550,000.
