Neeraj Chopra is missing from the entry list for the Rome Diamond League, raising concerns regarding his comeback following a injury-hit 2025 season. Meanwhile, India’s Sachin Yadav is set to make his debut at the prestigious event in Italy.
Indian javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra is missing from the entry list for the upcoming Rome Diamond League, also known as the Pietro Mennea Golden Gala, raising more questions about his return to competitive action.
While Chopra’s name is absent from the list, fellow Indian javelin thrower Sachin Yadav is set to make his Diamond League debut. The 2025 World Championships finalist has been included in a strong men’s javelin field for the prestigious event in Italy.
Sachin will compete against several top international athletes, including Anderson Peters of Grenada, Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic, Curtis Thompson of the United States, Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage of Sri Lanka, Julian Weber of Germany and former Olympic champion Thomas Röhler.

Neeraj Chopra's absence raises concerns
Chopra has not competed for the last seven months. The two-time Olympic medallist has been out of action since the World Championships in Tokyo, where he failed to finish on the podium for the first time since winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Chopra later revealed that he had been dealing with an injury during the World Championships and decided to take a break from competitions to focus on recovery and rehabilitation.
According to a report by The Times of India, Chopra was expected to make his comeback at the Doha Diamond League on May 8. However, the event was postponed to June 19 because of the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Interestingly, Doha has been a special venue for Chopra in recent years. It was at the Doha Diamond League last year that he finally breached the 90-metre mark in men’s javelin.
After a disappointing 2025 season that was marred by injuries, Chopra parted ways with coach Jan Zelezny, a world record holder and a Czech javelin throw legend, to join hands with Jaiveer Chaudhary ahead of the 2026 season.
