Neeraj Chopra will be making his long-awaited comeback to international competition on Friday at the Doha Diamond League in Doha. The Indian javelin star, a two-time Olympic medallist and former world champion, has not participated in any major event since the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo last year, where he finished a disappointing eighth in the final with a best throw of 84.03 metres in his first attempt.

Nine months later, the 28-year-old from Haryana will be returning to the same competition where he had finally breached the 90-metre mark, achieving the one feat that had eluded him throughout his career.

The Doha leg of the 2026 Diamond League also marks a new beginning for Chopra, who had parted ways with coach Jan Zelezny in January after just one season and has joined hands with Jai Chaudhary since then. Chaudhary, incidentally, was Chopra's first coach in his hometown of Panipat, Haryana and had taught him the fundamentals of the sport.
