Mourinho vs Casillas 2.0: Former Real Madrid captain wants "better equipped" coach at the club

Former Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas, who had a major fallout with José Mourinho during the 2012-13 season, has opened a front against the possibility of the former coach returning to the Spanish club. Mourinho is touted as the favourite to become the next Real Madrid coach after they suffered an embarrassing El Clásico defeat lately.

Mourinho had coached Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, winning 72% of matches and a La Liga title with Casillas as the captain. But their relationship broke down at the end of 2012 when Mourinho questioned Casillas' form. There were reports that Casillas was leaking inside information.

Casillas was also dropped by Mourinho for Antonio Adán before Diego López became the regular Real Madrid goalkeeper. Casillas returned to the team and captaincy after Mourinho left the club in 2013.

Real Madrid, however, are keen on getting 63-year-old Mourinho after two seasons without major trophies. The club official feels they need a strict disciplinarian to tackle the poor performances by top young players like Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham.

But Casillas doesn't feel that way.

Casillas says no to Mourinho at Madrid

In a social media post, Casillas argued that he has "no problem" with Mourinho, who is a "great" professional, but the club needs a different coach who is "better" equipped to handle the matters.

"I have no problem with Mourinho. He seems like a great professional to me. I don’t want him at @realmadrid. I think other coaches would be better equipped to coach at the club of my life. Personal opinion. Nothing more," Casillas wrote on X.

A few fans have since pointed out that Casillas is being jealous, but he is most likely pointing out at Mourinho's defensive tactics.

Nonetheless, recent reports from Europe suggest that Mourinho will soon be announced as the next Real Madrid manager. His two conditions for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez are the only things delaying the announcement.
