WATCH - Pep Guardiola bids emotional farewell to Man City: 'Players do not know it but I will be there controlling them'

Pep Guardiola’s emotional farewell at Manchester City turned into a night of tears as the legendary manager brought an end to a remarkable 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking to a packed and emotional crowd after his final match in charge, Guardiola admitted he was overwhelmed by the love from supporters and described his time at the club as a “huge honour”.

“I’m so nervous, terrified right now. Why you love me so much? Why you do that to me? I never could imagine the amount of love I have received,” Guardiola said.

“It has been an incredible, tremendous honour to be your manager, to be here during 10 years… I would love to not just remember the trophies. Hopefully we provide you with these unbelievable feelings and emotions,” he added.

Guardiola also thanked key figures at the club, including owners as well as his family, who were present at the stadium for the farewell. The Spaniard was speaking after his final game in charge, which ended in a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

"Let me have a little break, my dad is here - 95 years old. Maybe he doesn't realise but I am pretty sure Cris and my dad realise that there is a stand which is really beautiful and my family is there for many years. Thank you Sheikh Mansour but I am sure Khaldoon put real pressure on. My family they will be here. The players do not know it but I will be there controlling them to make legacies," Guardiola said.

"In the next years and you find me in the streets, if you are a City fan, come to me and hug me. I mean it. Like I said it has been a huge honour to represent this club. Every decision I thought what was best for this club. I love you so much. Let me finish what I said a few days ago, they didn't allow me to say it but it has been f****** fun," he added.

Fans also paid tributes to long-serving stars Bernardo Silva and John Stones, who made their final appearances for the club on Sunday. They were presented gifts by the club and also delivered farewell speeches.
