The moment happened after the game's final whistle, and Nico Gonzalez held his bottle. Messi was seen checking out the notes where each Argentine player would place their spot kick.

After a tense first half that had 19 fouls and only two yellow cards, England secured a lead after Anthony Gordon found the back of the net in the 55th minute. Victory looked destined for the Three Lions as they intended to win their first World Cup title in 60 years.

Argentina officially advanced to the 2026 World Cup final and will now face Spain on Monday, July 19, in New Jersey (Sunday, July 18 in the US).
