Harry Kane left breathless and beaming after England’s 3-2 victory over Mexico: 'I've been singing, can't really talk'

Harry Kane was nearly out of voice after England's emphatic 3-2 victory over the home favourites, Mexico, in the round of 16 match at the 2026 World Cup on Monday.

History was made at Estadio Azteca after England breached Mexico's fortress, securing a major win over the World Cup co-hosts, with Kane scoring from the penalty spot to help the Three Lions advance to the semifinal.

The English side erupted in celebration after the final whistle, with players celebrating with the fans. Kane, in particular, looked jubilant as he celebrated with the team. When he arrived for the post-match interaction, the England captain barely had any voice left in him.

"My voice has gone. It was a crazy game. We had to fight. We had to find something. I've just been singing, I can't really talk. The occasion, the team, everything against us, we found a way," Kane said while speaking to the BBC.

Kane was out of breath after competing at the high-altitude stadium, as away players often encounter breathing-related issues due to thinner air and lower oxygen levels. The venue is situated at an elevation of approximately 2,240 metres above sea level in Mexico City.

England seals semifinal spot after historic win vs Mexico

After the match was delayed by an hour due to lightning storms, Jude Bellingham put up a smashing performance, scoring a brace in the first half in a span of minutes and putting England firmly ahead in the competition. Julian Quinones netted a goal in the 42nd minute, taking the score to 1-2 at halftime.

England were restricted to ten men after Jarell Quansah was handed a red card. But Kane took the score ahead after converting a goal from a penalty spot in the 60th minute. Jimenez also converted in the 69th minute, turning the match into an intense affair.

The Kane-led England side sealed one of its biggest wins on foreign soil, defeating Mexico at their fortress to advance to the semifinals. They will now face Norway on Sunday, July 12, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
