Ronaldo roasted by fans, FIFA accused of favouring Portugal after Sánchez's goal disallowed: 'What's wrong...'

Cristiano Ronaldo had another horrendous game, while Davinson Sánchez had a goal controversially ruled out in the last minute as Colombia played out their first goalless match in a World Cup, against Portugal on Sunday.

As a result of the 0-0 draw, Colombia progressed to the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 as winners of Group K with seven points.

Portugal finished second with five points and also qualified for the Round of 32, along with DR Congo, which progressed despite finishing third.

Despute lack of goals, it was a highly entertaining match as Colombia made 26 shots, six of them on target and created multiple meaningful chances. But Jhon Cordoba, Jhon Arias and Richard Rios were guilty of missing multiple opportunities.

Fans rip into Ronaldo

On the other hand, Portugal had a much poorer game. Even though they created 13 shots, only two of them were on target. Star forward Ronaldo failed to create a single chance. His only shot was a weak free-kick from a long distance.

Portugal fans were not happy with some of the shots and free-kicks Ronaldo took in the match, as they felt that it disrupted the team's rhythm.

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH RONALDO," a fans wrote on X, while sharing a video of the forward trying to take a shot from outside the box, which was duly blocked by a defender.

Some also took a dig at Ronaldo for attempting a weak 40-yard free-kick.

"How did the goalie save this?? Ronaldo nearly bangs the 40 yard free kick," wrote a sarcastic fan.

By failing to beat Colombia, Portugal have avoided the possibility of playing against Lionel Messi's Argentina before the final. They will take on Croatia in the next round and could face Spain in the last 16.

FIFA accused of favouring Ronaldo 

Meanwhile, a major controversy broke out in the match after Davinson Sánchez's header was ruled offside. The former Tottenham player scored the goal at the far post with one minute left in the game, but a VAR check ruled it out as offside.

The replays showed that Davinson Sánchez was offside only due to his toe being ahead of the Portuguese defender. Fans claimed that FIFA had rigged the tournament to help Ronaldo win the tournament.

"Israeli Assisted Referee now intervening to save Ronaldo from losing to Columbia," A fan wrote on X.

Another account said: "UNUSUAL: this is why Colombia didn't beat Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal. Goal disallowed in stoppage time to Davinson Sánchez."

Colombia will play against Ghana in their Round of 32 match.
