Arsenal end 22-year wait for Premier League title after Manchester City held to 1-1 draw by Bournemouth

Arsenal ended a 22-year wait for another Premier League title after rivals Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw in their must-win away clash against Bournemouth on Tuesday. City's stalemate at the Vitality Stadium leaves them at 78 points with just one game left in the season, giving the Gunners an unassailable four-point lead at the top of the table, confirming their fourth Premier League title and their 14th overall in the English top-flight.

Talismanic striker Erling Haaland (90+4') leveled the scores with a little over a minute left in stoppage time after the Cherries led for a majority of the game thanks to Eli Junior Kroupi's (38') strike shortly before half-time. Unfortunately for Pep Guardiola's side, a minute's time was too little for them to try and score a winner, and it was only a matter of time before north London erupted with joy.

Arsenal had beaten Burnley 1-0 just 24 hours earlier in their final home game of the season thanks to Kai Havertz's 36th-minute goal. Arsenal and City were separated by just two points heading into Matchweek 37, but the Gunners' victory at the Emirates left City with no choice but to collect a win at Bournemouth to keep their title hopes alive.

Arsenal had last won the Premier League in the 2003-04 season when Arsene Wenger's 'Invincibles' went through the entire season unbeaten. Under Mikel Arteta, who had arrived at the Emirates Stadium in December 2019, the Gunners had finished second in each of the last three seasons.

Despite going through a familiar stutter in the final stretch after leading the table for months, Arsenal inched ahead of City in the nick of time and refused to relinquish it any further, maintaining a firm grip on the trophy.

Trophy awaits Gunners at Selhurst Park

Arsenal sign off from the 2025-26 Premier League season with an away clash against Crystal Palace this Sunday at Selhurst Park, where Arteta and Co will be presented with the glittering trophy.

Both teams, however, are expected to rest key members of their squad considering the fact that Arsenal and Palace will be in action in the final of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League respectively towards the end of the month.

City, meanwhile, face Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium in their final game of the season, and it remains to be seen whether reports of Guardiola's exit from the club turn out to be true on Sunday or not.
