Why RR skipper Riyan Parag vaping in dressing room could lead to major legal consequences
Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag has landed in controversy after being caught vaping in the team dressing room during the IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings, adding to the franchise’s off‑field troubles.

Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag has been mired in a massive controversy after being caught vaping in the team dressing room live on camera. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, with fans seething over the RR skipper's conduct.
The incident happened in the second innings of the Punjab Kings vs Rajasthan Royals IPL 2026 encounter on Tuesday, with the Riyan Parag-led side chasing a 223-run target. The broadcast cameras had panned towards the Royals' dressing room, where the skipper was seen using an electronic device to smoke in the presence of his teammates.
Riyan Parag breaches vaping law
The BCCI's guidelines specify that smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited on the venue premises, except in the designated zones. But the bigger problem lies in the possession and usage of an electronic cigarette, as India has banned vapes under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019.
PECA prohibits the production, advertising, sale, and import of e-cigarettes nationwide, and violations of the law will result in strict punishment. The person found guilty may face imprisonment for up to six months, a hefty fine, or both.
Additionally, Riyan Parag risks a major sanction or a fine for his conduct, as the BCCI has implemented stringent guidelines over players' conduct. The consumption of tobacco and related products is banned in dugouts and dressing rooms due to safety and health-related guidelines, but there is no clear verdict against vaping.
RR controversies in IPL 2026
Rajasthan Royals have been in dispute in the past, earlier in the season, as team manager Romi Bhinder was fined INR 1 lakh and given an official warning for using a mobile phone in the dugout. The incident happened during the RR vs RCB IPL 2026 clash in Guwahati.
Despite the controversies, the Rajasthan Royals secured a grand six-wicket win after chasing down the target, handing the Punjab Kings their first defeat of the season.
RR will be in action next against the Delhi Capitals on Friday, May 1, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
