'Electra' stumps make debut at BBL 2023: What is this new innovation?

The ‘Electra’ wicket stumps, that first made its appearance in the Women’s Big Bash League made its debut in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023 today. These stumps are known for their dynamic display of various colours, and hence, convey different decisions, including a no-ball, a wicket, a boundary, or the time-out between overs.Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan played a role in the unveiling of these innovative stumps ahead of a game. These electric stumps, equipped with LED lights, did enhance the accuracy of decisions concerning run-outs and bowled moments. The introduction of this technology also enabled the TV umpires to make precise and quick judgments.It was first used in a cricket match during Match 41 of the league stage between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers, which was played at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney. This was when the 'Fox Electric Stumps' were officially unveiled. This special set of three sticks at each end of the pitch is most certainly a significant upgrade in cricket technology, as it will improve visibility and decision-making in crucial moments of the game.Back in 2013, the ICC had introduced LED and also sanctioned the use of flashlights on stumps to enhance the assessment of run-out situations.
