Ketan Agarwal, the real estate director in his family business and a resident of Lodha Belmondo township in Gahunje, Pune, Maharashtra, died after being pushed from a height into a gorge at Lohagad Fort by his fiancée, Siya Goyal and her lover, Chetan Chaudhary, on June 18. The incident has shocked the nation.

The "accidental slip" theory, which was initially taken into account, appeared dubious to Ketan's sister from day one. Before even investigators pieced together the evidence, a sister's suspicion helped unearth the truth behind her brother's brutal killing at Lohagad Fort.

A sister who questioned the "slip" theory

From Ketan's death news till his funeral, his sister's suspicion only grew further, becoming the starting point for unravelling a murky murder plot.

She continued to doubt and scrutinise the accident narrative that floated around her brother's death. She had many unanswered questions, particularly regarding Goyal, Ketan's fiancée.

Four days after the incident, when Goyal visited the Agarwal home to offer condolences, Ketan's sister asked her a series of questions about the events leading up to the fall at Lohagad, according to reports.

There were several inconsistencies in Goyal's reply that concerned the deceased's sister. She then shared her doubts with the family, following which they reached out to the investigators and sought a fresh probe.

At the family's request, officials examined CCTV footage, technical evidence, and phone records, and questioned people connected to the case.

During the probe, officials also learned Goyal's long-standing affair with Chaudhary, which became one of the threads that helped unravel what cops now describe as a meticulously planned murder conspiracy.

According to police, Goyal and her lover had been in contact for straight three years. They spoke 2,004 times between January and June this year, logging 238 hours on calls. They both often communicated through FaceTime and WhatsApp calls, police allege.

According to the Agarwal family, the Goyals knew about Siya's relationship with Chetan but nevertheless insisted on the alliance, assuring that there would be no issues.

On the family's insistence and the sister's repeated doubts, when cops scanned the CCTV footage from the area, they spotted a man wearing a hoodie in the sweltering summer of June. That man was following Ketan and Goyal's vehicle and movements around Lohagad Fort.

It was the hoodie that helped the cops identify Chetan, who was tracking the pair. Additionally, authorities remained dissatisfied with Goyal's account due to inconsistencies, including statements she reportedly made after Ketan's fall, prompting a deeper probe.

Police detained Goyal and Chaudhary and began questioning them. Both provided vague answers. Officials then intensified the interrogation and probe, which eventually indicated that this was not an accident, but a “premeditated plot" to kill Ketan.

When Ketan began to question the relationship

According to reports, family members, including the sister, told the investigators that Ketan had recently started showing concerns regarding his fiancée's closeness with another man, raising doubts about her background.

However, those concerns never resulted in a major confrontation, though all these doubts had begun troubling the 26-year-old realtor before his death.

The heartbroken father asked why Goyal did not refuse to marry in the first place if she loved someone else.

“If she didn’t want to get married, she could have simply refused. We would have cancelled the wedding immediately. Why did they take such a drastic step? What kind of mindset is this? Their mindset is so cruel that someone’s 26-year-old son could be killed. Society needs to take note of such a cruel mindset. Where does this ideology come from - their family, their upbringing?” he said.

Families booked a 17 crore palace to throw a lavish wedding of Ketan and Goyal in Udaipur, Rajasthan, in November- unaware of the chilling plot that his fiancée was planning for days to kill Ketan.
