October 23, Wednesday, will be a busy day with several events on the agenda.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Brics summit in Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold several bilateral discussions today, including talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to file her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi expected to attend the event.

Cyclone Dana is likely to intensify from a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and turn into a cyclonic storm today.

The Congress party is set to launch a ‘Nyay Yatra’ in Delhi. The yatra will begin today and run until November 28.

The Bombay High Court will resume hearings in the Badlapur sexual assault case. It will seek details on the actions taken against Badlapur police officials.

Brics Summit 2024: PM Modi to meet China’s Xi Jinping?

It's official. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a bilateral with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Brics Summit in Russia's Kazan. This is the first such meeting between the two leaders since 2019 and comes days after the breakthrough in border talks on Monday.

On Tuesday, after he arrived in Kazan, Modi held bilaterals with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Priyanka Gandhi for Wayanad showdown

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to file her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-poll today, PTI reported citing sources. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, along with former party chiefs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, will reportedly be present at the event.

The by-poll for the Wayanad parliamentary seat is scheduled for November 13, along with the first phase of polling for the Jharkhand Assembly. The results will be declared on November 23.

Brics Summit 2024: Putin to hold several bilateral talks

On the sidelines of the Brics Summit in Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Putin will also hold discussions today with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.

The 16th Brics Summit is being held in Kazan under Russia's chairmanship from October 22 to 24.

Cyclone Dana alert

Cyclone Dana is expected to intensify from a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, strengthening into a cyclonic storm today.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is expected to make landfall between Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal during the night of October 24 and the early morning of October 25.

‘Nyay Yatra’ in Delhi

The Congress party is set to launch a ‘Nyay Yatra’ in Delhi, starting today and running until November 28. The first phase will take place from October 23 to October 28, followed by the second phase from November 4 to November 10.

The third and fourth phases of the ‘Nyay Yatra’ will also take place in November, from November 12 to November 18 and then from November 20 to November 28.

Badlapur encounter case escalates

The Bombay High Court is set to resume hearings in the Badlapur sexual assault case and seek details on the actions taken against Badlapur police officials who failed to immediately register a First Information Report (FIR) and properly investigate the incident.

In August, two girls, aged four and five, were allegedly sexually abused by a male attendant inside a school toilet in Thane’s Badlapur region. The accused, Akshay Shinde, was arrested but was shot dead by police in an alleged shoot-out on September 23.
