Actor-politician Vijay officially took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, marking a historic transition from cinema superstardom to state leadership. The swearing-in ceremony drew massive crowds, political leaders and several personalities from the film industry, with loud cheers erupting as Vijay took the oath of office.
A major political milestone for Vijay
Vijay’s rise from one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars to the Chief Minister’s chair has been one of the most closely watched political journeys in recent years.
The actor contested the elections under his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), securing a significant victory and reshaping Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
His swearing-in also revived memories of legendary Tamil cinema figures like M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, who successfully transitioned from films into politics.
Celebrities congratulate Vijay
Soon after the ceremony, which was also attended by Trisha Krishnan, congratulatory messages began pouring in from across the entertainment industry.
Filmmaker Pa Ranjith took to X and congratulated Vijay on becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and wrote, “Heartfelt congratulations to the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, Thiru. Joseph Vijay @TVKVijayHQ, who is set to assume the role of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. I am confident that you will lead a people-welfare government.”
Kamal Haasan wrote on X, “May the state of Tamil Nadu shine under the leadership of the president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, my brother Thiru. Vijay @TVKVijayHQ. May it reach new heights. I convey my heartfelt congratulations.”
Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, congratulated Vijay and wrote. "I wish the new government would fulfil the aspirations of the people, ensure transparent and progressive governance, and lead Tamil Nadu towards greater growth and prosperity."
Madhavan shared Vijay's photo on Instagram with the caption, "God bless you and sooooo proud of you."
Prakash Raj also congratulated Vijay and wrote, "Wishing you the best to succeed in your new responsibility . May the state thrive in your governance too."
Pooja Hegde took to Instagram and posted a story congratulating Vijay for his spectacular win in a fun way. She wrote, "Woahhhh. @actorvijay or as it should now say Chief Minister Vijay sir."
Several other stars also congratulated the actor as he took oath to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory posts from fans and film personalities, many calling it a “historic day” for Tamil Nadu politics and cinema alike.

Before entering politics full-time, Vijay established himself as one of the biggest stars in Tamil cinema with blockbuster films spanning more than three decades.
Known popularly as “Thalapathy” among fans, his political journey had been anticipated for years before he formally launched TVK.
