Vedang Raina on Netflix's The Archies co-stars Suhana Khan & Khushi Kapoor: 'They were getting criticism even before...'

Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies, which began streaming on Netflix from December 7, was under the scrutiny of certain social media users that were critical of the lead performances of Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor, and other debutants like Agastya Nanda and Vedang Raina.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Raina addressed the same and said, “We always understood it as a group that there’s a certain baggage you bring when you come from a certain legacy. For the three of them, obviously, it is rough. They were getting criticism even before the film had come out and before anything at all. They have faced it from very young age.”

He added, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and people are always going to say things and you need to decide what you are going to let in and what you are going to keep out. I think it is important to be thick-skinned as an actor because criticism is a part of the job. There are so many eyes on you. It’s not like other fields and the public is watching you and they are gauging what you are doing and are judging your performances.”

In an interview with Juggernaut, Zoya Akhtar addressed the much-talked about debate around nepotism. Speaking to the portal, she revealed, “That is a conversation to be had. Everyone needs to have the same kind of education, job opportunities, et al. But when you turn around and say Suhana Khan shouldn’t be in my film it’s banal because it’s not going to change your life whether she’s in my film or not. You have to talk about what is going to change your life.”

Addressing the issue in another interview

Agastya is Amitabh Bachchan‘s grandson, Suhana is Shah Rukh Khan‘s daughter, and Khushi is Boney Kapoor and the late Sridevi’s daughter. In an interview with The Indian Express, Akhtar addressed the debate around nepotism in the film industry and said, “There is definitely a conversation of have and have nots, there is definitely a conversation of people with privilege and those without.”
