Tamasha 'first look': Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor give a sense of deja vu
Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha brings the celebrated on screen couple back together

Who wouldn't want to see Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone together on screen again? They're good looking, they clearly have chemistry and they've together made a blockbuster called Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. And now, their latest film together has the potential to be the cherry on their lovely Bollywood cake.Directed by Imtiaz Ali, a director who has given both actors memorable films (Love Aaj Kal with Deepika and Rockstar with Ranbir), Tamasha brings the celebrated on-screen couple back together, and it wouldn't be too far fetched to say that there are steep expectations attached to this film. However, the "first look" of Tamasha was "leaked" on Mumbai Mirror on Tuesday morning, and may we say, we feel like yawning?[caption id="attachment_2367136" align="alignnone" width="825"]
A still from Tamasha that was released in Mumbai Mirror. Image from Twitter: @TOIEntertain[/caption]According to the report, Ranbir Kapoor plays "a free-spirited nomad who likes to spread happiness, and wanders from place to place," and he bumps into Deepika along the way. When was the last time Ranbir Kapoor teamed up with Deepika and didn't play a "free-spirited nomad"? Bachna Ae Haseenon, check. Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, check.Keeping the predictability aside, the film is set in the french island Corsica, and revolves around their journey of discovery and love. Corsica has been used as the setting because both characters are fans of the comic series Asterix, which is set in the island too. We can definitely expect the picturesque, Mediterranean setting to add a lovely edge to the film. Now if only we could say the same about Ranbir-Deepika. Why couldn't Deepika have been the free-spirited nomad? We've certainly seen glimpses of it in Cocktail (incidentally written by Imtiaz Ali) and we know she's an actor capable of taking on diverse roles. On the other hand, there's Ranbir Kapoor who has played this role many times. But he's also done Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year and Rockstar, and has proved that he can experiment.Meanwhile, there's no mention of this "first look" on Tamasha's Twitter page. We did find another image from the film that doesn't reveal too much either:Mostly, we're getting a major sense of deja-vu with these images. Is this a case of succumbing to stereotypes? However, Imtiaz Ali never fails to surprise. So we will keep our fingers crossed.Tamasha is set to release on November 27.
