Sonu Nigam takes a trip down memory lane, shares Anu Malik lied to him

Singer Sonu Nigam is considered one of the most impeccable talents in the entertainment industry. The singer, who enjoyed an illustrious career in the 90s, is still among the most influential singers in the fraternity. However, it wasn’t the same always. Sonu Nigam managed to reach the heights of success only after having his fair share of struggles. Recently, the legendary singer opened up on his failures and how he was told by some music composers that it was not his home.Sonu Nigam recently spoke to Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast. He recalled moments when he used to visit different places in search of work on his two-wheeler and contact people from a phone booth to ask for work. As he recalled his journey, he shared an incident that had him speaking to Anu Malik and said, "Anu ji naatak karte the. He would pretend that he is Abu (his younger brother). He would say, 'Anu ji nahi hain, main unka chota bhai Abu bol raha hun'. I knew it was him, but one should wait for his time."The singer took a trip down memory lane and shared his experience when he went for his first audition at the age of 18. Speaking about the same, the singer said, “I went to Usha Khanna’s audition in 1991. I was probably 18. She called me to a recording at Sargam Studio. I saw Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu coming and singing there. They asked me to sit. But I kept standing. I kept standing for 7 hours. I thought what if the door opens and they see that I am sitting…no, I kept standing because I thought that would leave a good impression.”He went on to reveal that he was called to sing the song by the end of the day and he sang the popular song 'Tanhayi' that left everyone stunned. His impressive skills got him various opportunities to perform and bag multiple accolades and awards.Within his career spanning over two decades, the singer has lent his voice for many superhit songs including Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin, Mere Hath Mein, Sooraj Hua Maddham and Saathiya among few others. He was also conferred with the National Film Award for the title track of Kal Ho Naa Ho.
