Producer R.B. Choudary dies in road accident: Rajinikanth, Pawan Kalyan and Tamil stars mourn loss

Acclaimed producer R. B. Choudary, father of actor Jiiva, passed away in a tragic car accident near Udaipur, Rajasthan, on Tuesday (May 5).

The sudden news has sent shockwaves across the Tamil film industry, with several leading names expressing grief over the loss.

A legacy spanning four decades

Choudary was a towering figure in South Indian cinema, known for backing films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi under his banner, Super Good Films. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, he produced 99 films, many of which went on to become major commercial successes. He was also instrumental in launching the careers of over 34 directors, including K. S. Ravikumar, Vikraman, Ezhil, Rajakumaran, Sasi and Ravi Maria.

Industry pays tribute

Several prominent film personalities took to social media to mourn his demise and remember his contributions.

Pawan Kalyan wrote, "The demise of renowned producer and Super Good Films head Shri RB Chowdary Garu has left me stunned. I cannot believe the tragic news that Shri Chowdary Garu met with a fatal end in a road accident near Udaipur in Rajasthan. I pray to God that his soul attains peace." He also recalled working with him on Suswagatham, adding that Choudary had a strong instinct for family-oriented stories and meaningful cinema.

Rajinikanth shared an emotional note, remembering Choudary as both a dear friend and a “top-notch producer”. "He has given opportunities to countless young directors and kept the film world alive. His untimely death news has left me in great shock and immense sorrow," he wrote on X.

Chiranjeevi expressed deep grief, writing, "Deeply heartbroken to hear about the sudden and tragic loss of legendary producer R.B. Choudary garu… His contribution to Indian cinema is beyond words." He also recalled their recent collaboration on God Father.

Actor and politician Khushbu Sundar remembered him as a “thorough gentleman” and one of the most respected members of the film fraternity. "Will always remember him as a man with a smiling face and a very firm handshake," she wrote.

Meanwhile, Venkatesh Daggubati highlighted their long association through films like Suryavamsam, Raja, Seenu and Sankranti. "His passion and invaluable contributions to cinema will live on through his work," he said.
