Newton has been chosen as India's official entry for Oscars' Best Foreign Language Film

Amit V Masurkar's Newton has been selected as India's entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 2017 Oscars. Rajkummar Rao, who plays the titular character in the black comedy confirmed the news on Twitter.[caption id="attachment_3986509" align="alignleft" width="380"] Rajkummar Rao in a still from Newton. Eros Now.[/caption]As per a report by the Scroll, the selection committee of the Film Federation of India, headed by Telugu producer CV Reddy, announced its decision on 22 September.According to his statement, the film was unanimously chosen out of 26 other films running for the category.The director also spoke to the publication and expressed his gratitude to the committee. He said he hopes to draw attention to the dismal state of Chhattisgarh and other troubled areas.Here's what Rao had to say:The film is being praised by critics all over the country, with many deeming it the finest film of 2017. Based on a devoted presiding officer's crusade to conduct a free and fair election in the insurgency-hit state of Chhattisgarh, the film very subtly puts forth questions that are paramount importance to a fair democracy.Apart from Rao, the film has a pool of talented actors, who collectively put up great performances. Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Raghubir Yadav, Danish Husain, Mukesh Prajapati, Krishna Singh Bisht, Pistak Gond, Sanjay Mishra play pivotal roles in the film and add to its overall appeal.
