It's almost a month since the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, however, the Netflix show continues to garner headlines among the audience. While the magnum opus has been lauded for its plot, direction and larger-than-life visuals, Sharmin Segal garnered severe criticism for her portrayal of Alamzeb.

Several costars of the actress came out in support of the actress and the latest one to join them is Indresh Malik. "I had a blast working with her and she's a wonderful soul. In between shots, we used to joke and, mark my words, she'll go places. There have been masterpieces in history that the masses have rejected," said the actor while talking to The Free Press Journal.

He added, "After 10-15 years, people realise it's a masterpiece. But when it was made and released, people rejected it outright there and then. So everybody has the right to criticise. You cannot stop anybody from commenting or criticising. So it's all about your state of mind."

The show’s star cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sanjeeda Shaikh appeared on Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show. While the debate of nepotism again sparked as Sharmin is the niece of SLB, the comedian asked her, “Kya unhone aapka sach me audition liya tha ya aapne unko mamu banaya?”, She said it was a long one-year grueling process and she gave auditions 16 times. “Ek saal ke liye prepare kiya aur 16 baar auditions diye (In one year I gave 16 auditions for the role),” replied Sharmin.

Sharmin garnered severe criticism for her performance in Heeramandi as netizens ’expressionless’ and her acting skills, ‘abysmal.’ In fact, she disabled the comment section of her Instagram profile due to the growing backlash against her.
