Music composer Palash Muchhal publicly confirmed last year that his wedding with Indian women’s-team star Smriti Mandhana had been called off. In an emotional post shared on Instagram Stories, he said he has chosen to “move on” from the relationship and asked people to stop spreading baseless gossip.

A few months after the wedding being called off, the composer has landed in fresh trouble. As per a report by TV9 Marathi, a complaint has been filed against Muchhal by Vigyan Prakash Mane, a resident of Sangli and a childhood friend of Smriti Mandhana.

What's the controversy?

Mane has alleged that the singer and composer made derogatory remarks against his caste. Police have registered a case under Section 3(1) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with Sections 351(2) and 352.

There's more. The allegations further state that the composer borrowed Rs 25 lacs from the complainant for producing a film. Mane was quoted saying, "He assured me that the film would be completed in six months. However, he turned out to be deceitful. When I asked for my money back, he evaded the issue. When I confronted him, he used derogatory language; I cannot even repeat it on camera. His attitude is quite troubling."

Muchhal on his wedding being called off

In his statement, Muchhal addressed swirling rumours that his wedding was cancelled because of alleged infidelity. He described these rumours as deeply hurtful and entirely “baseless and defamatory.” He warned that his team will take strict legal action against anyone spreading false information.

“Its been very difficult for me to see people react so easily on baseless rumours about something which has been most sacred to me. Its the most difficult phase of my life and I will deal with it gracefully holding on to my beliefs. I truly hope we, as a society, learn to pause before judging someone based on unverified gossip, whose sources are never identified. Our words can wound in ways we may never understand,” he wrote, requesting empathy and restraint.
