Miller, who collected the testimonies of the survivors of the “Bloody Hundredth” to tell their story.The first four instalments are directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (No Time to Die), followed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Captain Marvel), Dee Rees (Mudbound) and Tim Van Patten (Game of Thrones).Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, it is written by biographer Don Miller. “I don’t think you’ll find combat anywhere in history as intense as these air fights,” says the author of the book. “You’re in an aluminium tube so thin a guy with a screwdriver could punch a hole in it. German (fighter pilots) would aim for the pilot and co-pilot, and a lot of pilots were beheaded by gunfire,” he added.
