Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay movie review: Even Brahmanandam's cameo can't save this Guru Randhawa and Saiee Manjrekar starrer

After giving us musical chartbusters like Banja Tu Meri Rani, Naach Meri Rani, Ishare Tere, Morni Banke and others, singer and songwriter Guru Randhawa is set to make his big Bollywood debut with G. Ashok's directorial Kuch Khatta Ho Jaay. The slice-of-life promises to be a breezy family entertainer but does it deliver what it promises? Let's find out...

Based out of Agra, the story of Kuch Khatta Ho Jaay revolves around Heer Chawla (Guru Randhawa) and Iraa Mishra (Saiee Manjrekar). Iraa wants to focus on her IAS studies but her family wants her to get married and settle down. On the other hand, Heer's grandfather (Anupam Kher) expresses his last wish to see his grandson get married and get to play with his great-grandson before passing away.

While Heer is madly in love with Iraa, she says her first love is only IAS. As the duo is under tremendous family pressure, Heer suggests that they should marry each other. While Iraa can focus on her studies, they will think about kids after she clears her exam and achieves her dreams.

Heer and Iraa get married and the families of the duo beam with joy. However, she soon gets the responsibilities of the Chawla family, which affects her studies. In a series of coincidences and funny events, Heer's aunt (Ila Arun) thinks that Iraa is pregnant and spreads it to the Chawla family. While Heer suggests Iraa that they should clear the misunderstanding, she stops him and says this can help her to focus on her study. And what follows after that is the main crux of Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay.

Despite a runtime of just 2 hours and 5 minutes, director G. Ashok's film looks stretched and dull. The narrative fails to strike a chord with some songs turning out to be the obstacles in the story progression. The lack of engagement is the biggest failure for Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay. There are some funny moments in the movie but it won't stay for you.

Talking about the performances, Guru Randhawa has a good screen presence but he really needs to work on his acting chops and dialogue delivery. However, he tries to put his best foot forward by showcasing his charm on the big canvas. Saiee is decent and manages to perform well, especially in the emotional scenes. All the supporting cast including Anupam Kher, Ila Arun, Atul Srivastava, Paresh Ganatra and Paritosh Tripathi fit the bill perfectly.

For me, the biggest highlight of the film is the cameo of the Tollywood legendary comedian Brahmanandam, who can tickle you just by sheer presence. However, it is disappointing that he was utilised to his potential.

On the whole, Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay is a forgettable affair as it lacks entertaining elements and good storytelling.
