The comment quickly went viral online, with many viewers recalling the comedian’s highly publicised 2017 scandal. The roast itself was seen by many as payback after Hart previously hosted The Roast of Tom Brady in 2024, where Brady himself became the subject of several personal jokes.

What happened in Kevin Hart’s 2017 controversy?

Back in 2017, reports emerged claiming Hart had been involved with another woman while his wife Eniko Hart was pregnant with their son.

The controversy escalated after an alleged extortion attempt involving a “sexually provocative” video linked to Hart surfaced online. Initially, the actor denied wrongdoing publicly. However, months later, Hart admitted he had made “bad errors in judgement” and apologised publicly to his wife and family. In an emotional Instagram video at the time, Hart acknowledged putting himself in a position where he “should not have been”. The scandal dominated entertainment headlines for months and sparked widespread public scrutiny around his marriage.

The woman was identified as model and actress, Montia Sabbag, who filed a $60 million lawsuit on September 16, 2019 against the man who allegedly recorded the video, Jonathan Todd Jackson, as well as Hart and the hotel authorities, for negligence in allowing Jackson access to the property where the video was filmed.
