Kareena Kapoor cheers for Robert Downey Jr, calls him 'genius' as he bags first Oscar for 'Oppenheimer'

Although the Oscars 2024 night is over, the buzz surrounding the award ceremony seems far from over. Held at the Dolby Theatre in the heart of Hollywood, Los Angeles, the event saw an amalgamation of glitz, glamour, art, and impeccable performances. In one of the notable moments, Robert Downey Jr won his first Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer. As the actor accepted the award, he gave a heartwarming speech, winning the hearts of everyone. While the Internet was already applauding the actor for his acceptance speech, Kareena Kapoor Khan also joined them as she cheered for the actor.

In a first, Robert Downey Jr bagged the Oscar award for Best Supporting Actor. While accepting the award, the Avengers actor jokingly thanked his ‘terrible childhood’ for the milestone he has achieved. He, then, turned towards his wife Susan and comparing her to a veterinarian, said, “She found me as a snarling rescue pet and loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here, thank you.”

Robert further added, “Here’s my little secret, I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris (Nolan) knew it, Emma made sure she surrounded me with one of the great casts and crews of all time –Emily, Cillian, Matt Damon, Blunt—and I stand here before you as a better man because of it.”

Seemingly impressed by the actor’s wise words, Kareena Kapoor took to her Instagram handle and shared a video of Robert's speech on her stories. She accompanied the video with a text that read ‘genius’ followed by a couple of starstruck emojis, clapping emojis, and a rolling on-the-floor emoji.

It needs to be noted that Downey was also nominated for an Oscar award in 1993. He earned the nomination for his work in 'Chaplin'. However, he couldn’t win.

On the other hand, Kareena Kapoor was last seen in Sujoy Ghosh’s Jaane Jaan. The suspense thriller also starred Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat. Now, the Jab We Met actress is gearing up for the release of her next film, The Crew. The film, besides Kareena, also has Tabu and Kriti Sanon playing the lead roles. In addition to that, she also has Hansal Mehta's thriller film The Buckingham Murders in her kitty.
