HanuMan director says Adipurush didn't 'affect' his filmmaking process: 'Those are the mistakes I would...'

Prashanth Varma is receiving widespread fame for his recent blockbuster film 'Hanu-Man' featuring Teja Sajja in the lead role. The movie has surpassed the 2,000 crore mark worldwide and is doing exceptionally well at the box office since its release on January 12, 2024.It's undeniable that Prashanth Varma deserves the full credit for HanuMan's success and what he has pulled off with the movie is something Telugu actors Prabhas and Om Raut couldn't do with Adipurush. Made on a small budget, the recent release is winning all the praise. And now, in a recent interview, when the film's director was asked about his take on Adipurush, he shared many things. Adipurush received severe backlash for its visual effects and dialogues. When asked if he saw Adipurush as a lesson to not do certain things with HanuMan, Prashanth said, “Not at all. Whether the film had happened or not, I would have made this film as it is now. Because those are the mistakes I would never do irrespective of… that film. That’s not my style of filmmaking… and me as a person also. That film didn’t affect my process of filmmaking at all. I would never do that.”When asked if Adipurush hurt him in any way, Prashanth said, “To be frank, there were a few sequences in the film where I went ‘woah’… they were so good. I could have never done this. We should give that credit. And there were sequences… seeing which I was really hurt. I was like ‘Arre I would have done it (differently). Every filmmaker feels that. And at the same time, as an audience also I could not agree with but then there were a few brilliant sequences.”Starring Teja Sajja and Amirtha Iyer in the lead roles, HanuMan has collected over Rs 230 crore at the box office in just 13 days. It has also surpassed the collection of Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram. Prashanth has already begun the pre-production of the sequel of HanuMan, which will be turned into a big franchise.After the success of the first part, Varma has been receiving “unlimited budget” offers for Jai Hanuman, the sequel of the film. He stressed that he does not want to spend a mammoth amount, like Rs 1,000 crore, just for the sake of it, though the film demands a very high budget. “It could be the biggest film of India. But we don’t want to waste the budget on remuneration and other stuff like that. We already have the script and storyboard ready. So, we will do it one shot at a time and see where it goes budget-wise. But it’s not like I am mentally prepared to make this film with Rs 1,000 crore. That’s not the intention. We will spend only what is required for the film and the story,” he noted.
