Priyanka Chopra has completed 25 years in Hindi cinema. She was crowned Miss World in 2000, signed a lot of films in 2002, and finally made her debut with Anil Sharma’s The Hero Love Story Of A Spy and Raj Kanwar’s Andaaz. Her claim to fame was the 2004 Aitraaz where her smouldering and scorching persona as the seductive Soniya set the screen ablaze.

Some of her finest performances are Fashion, Bajirao Mastani, Barfi, and Kaminey. 2016 onwards, she moved to Hollywood and began afresh with the series Quantico. She was recently seen with John Cena in Heads of State, and Prime Video’s The Bluff.

But not too many people know that before making her Hindi film debut, the actress was seen in a film with actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu CM Thalapathy Vijay. It was a 2002 film called Thamizhan. In an interview with Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Chopra spilled the beans on her debut.

What Priyanka Chopra said

"It was a movie called Thamizhan in the Tamil language in India. I learned phonetically because it was impossible to learn a new language. But I memorized my lines. My first exposure to fame came from my first co-actor. His name is Vijay, who's extremely popular."

The actress added, "There used to be hundreds and hundreds of people standing there to watch him while he was dancing or doing his thing. It was my first movie, and I had no idea what happens behind the scenes—we just saw what we saw in movie theaters. I remember thinking it must feel like being a demi-god."

An embarrassing incident during Andaaz

In an interview with Vogue Arabia, Priyanka recalled her early days in Bollywood, an anecdote that has been shared copiously before. Chopra revealed, “I was a dreadful dancer when I first started. I was not able to act and nail the choreography at the same time, plus coordinate with my co-star. It was just too many things for my 19- or 20-year-old brain.”

The actress added, "I was filming with Raju Khan in South Africa and missing my marks. He got so upset with me that he threw the mic down, saying, ‘You might come from a pageant, but learn how to dance before you become an actress. ’ He just walked away, and I was so embarrassed."
