Dhurandhar 2 song row intensifies as mediation fails with Trimurti Films; Delhi HC to hear case on May 8

The legal battle surrounding Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has taken another turn after mediation talks between the film’s makers and Trimurti Films failed to reach a settlement. The matter will now return to the Delhi High Court for hearing on May 8.

What is the dispute about?

The controversy centres around the song Rang De Lal (Oye Oye) from Dhurandhar 2, which Trimurti Films alleges uses elements from the iconic track Tirchi Topiwale, popularly known as Oye Oye, from the 1989 film Tridev.

Trimurti Films, headed by filmmaker Rajiv Rai, claims the recreated version was used without proper authorisation or permission. The suit has been filed against filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s banner B62 Studios, along with other parties associated with the film.

Mediation attempts unsuccessful

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had referred the matter to mediation in hopes of an out-of-court resolution. However, according to a report in Bar and Bench, discussions between both sides failed to produce an agreement, pushing the matter back into legal proceedings.

The court is now expected to continue hearing arguments regarding copyright infringement and music rights.

Another controversy for Dhurandhar 2

This is not the only legal issue the blockbuster film has faced in recent weeks. Earlier, filmmaker Santosh Kumar had accused Aditya Dhar of copying the script of Dhurandhar 2 from his own work titled D Saheb. That matter, however, was closed after Kumar issued an apology before the Bombay High Court.

Despite the controversies, the Ranveer Singh-starrer has continued its record-breaking run at the box office, emerging as the second highest-grossing Indian film of all times.
