BTS Recipe Book: Why is it trending? What does it tell fans about the BTS Army RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook?

The K-Pop band BTS temporarily halted their group activities until 2025 as the members fulfilled their mandatory military service in South Korea, but they had been pursuing individual projects. J-hope went into the military on April 2023 after releasing his solo album Jack In The Box, while his album Hope on the Street Vol. 1. was released alongside a docu-series of the same name on March 2024 during his military service. Everybody has successfully completed the training in the military.

The BTS Recipe Book

During the annual BTS ARMY festival, BTS Festa, in June, Hachette Book Group’s Running Press announced a new cookbook in partnership with the K-pop superstars — including RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook.

It's available on Amazon for sale for $21 (regularly $30) on Amazon. The book gets its inspiration from the army's album eras with recipes for Korean cuisine, such as braised beef ribs, carp bread, ginseng chicken soup, Korean fried chicken, rice crackers, simmered rice cakes, sugar-filled griddlecakes and other dishes, per Rolling Stone. In fact, some of the recipes appeared in the series, RUN BTS!, BTS: Bon Voyage and In the Soop.

All seven members log onto a livestream, broadcast from a beach. A few years ago, it was a common image. But after the K-pop boy band BTS pressed pause on their full-band duties for nearly four years, it was revelatory.

That’s the scene that begins “BTS: The Return,” a new Netflix documentary from director Bao Nguyen (“The Stringer,” “The Greatest Night in Pop”), produced by This Machine (“Martha,” “Karol G”) and HYBE, the South Korean entertainment company behind BTS and countless other international acts.

The mostly-Korean language film offers an intimate look at BTS’ journey to their latest album, “ARIRANG,” released Friday. It also follows the seven member group — RM, Jin, Jimin, V, Suga, Jung Kook and j-hope — as they learned to reacclimate to their life in the fast lane, together again.
