Benedict Cumberbatch has gone viral after being caught in a heated public argument with a cyclist on the streets of London.

The Sherlock and Doctor Strange actor was reportedly involved in the tense exchange near King’s Cross Station earlier this week, with videos of the incident now circulating widely online.

What had happened?

According to eyewitnesses quoted in a report by The Sun, the confrontation began after Cumberbatch allegedly rode his cargo bike through a red light in a cycle lane. Another cyclist reportedly followed him before confronting the actor on the road.

Videos from the scene showed the masked cyclist accusing Cumberbatch of repeatedly breaking traffic rules.

“You’re deluded. You’re lying. I was behind you the entire time,” the cyclist was heard shouting in the clip. The actor responded, “Dude, you verbally abused me.” The cyclist accused Benedict of breaking rules and said, “You went through a zebra crossing, you went through three lights.”

Argument reportedly lasted nearly 10 minutes

Reports claimed the heated exchange lasted close to 10 minutes and briefly blocked part of the road as stunned pedestrians watched the two continue arguing. At one point, the cyclist allegedly accused the actor of running multiple red lights and improperly crossing a zebra crossing. Cumberbatch reportedly admitted to one traffic violation but denied several other accusations made during the argument.

An eyewitness was quoted saying, “It was crazy. It was such a pompous road rage that it almost felt like it had been staged. Benedict still managed to charm everyone watching, even though he was having a meltdown. The masked guy was obviously some kind of vigilante – he was really taken aback when he saw it was Benedict Cumberbatch, but he doubled down on his rage.”

The report added that Benedict was sweet to the fans and onlookers gathered there, despite his agitated state. “These school kids asked, ‘is that Dr Strange?’ Benedict said, ‘not at the moment, in a minute’; he was lovely with them, they were awe-struck,” the eyewitness added.
