Disney turned 100 on October 16. It’s more than just a name, more than just a company. From some unforgettable cartoon characters to the exceptional and euphoric Disney Land to massively successful movies, Disney has seen, and given us all for entertainment. The timeline of Disney

December 5, 1901- The birth of the founder Walter Disney

October 16, 1923- Walt Disney and his brother Roy find the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio

1928- The introduction of Mickey Mouse with the release of Steamboat Willie. 

Mickey Mouse made his first appearance in Steamboat Willie on 18 November, 1928. He was born out of necessity when Walt Disney discovered he had lost the rights to his previous character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. In fact, in the first cartoons Mickey's voice was provided by Disney.

The character was introduced in the silent film era and first spoke in an animated short called The Karnival Kid. His first words were, "Hot dogs."

According to Sunday Times, Mickey was initially going to be named Mortimer, but Disney's wife thought it sounded "too pompous." Although, a mouse of the same name was introduced as Mickey's arch nemesis, who used to date Minnie.

Over the years people have speculated as to what kind of a relationship do Minnie and Mickey share. In a 1933 interview, Disney had revealed that the two were actually married.

1937- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the release of Disney’s first feature film

1950- Cinderella becomes a blockbuster

1955- Disneyland opens in Anaheim

December 16, 1966- Walt Disney passes away at 65

1964- The premiere of the immensely successful Mary Poppins

1995- The release of the company’s first animated film Toy Story

2003- Roy Disney quits the company. He said, “Disney has lost its focus, creative energy and heritage.”

2006- Disney acquires Pixar

2021- The company reaches 100 million users
