Volkswagen reveals key specs of the ID Cross months ahead of launch, here’s all you need to know

Raising the angst for the upcoming ID Cross, Volkswagen has unveiled several key details about the electric SUV. The all-electric SUV was previewed as a concept earlier at the IAA Mobility show in Germany. It’s possible that the SUV might break cover between September and November.

Volkswagen ID Cross powertrain and charging details

The ID Cross will be on offer with two battery packs, namely a 37 kWh pack as well as a 52 kWh battery pack. Volkswagen has revealed that the former will adopt an LFP chemistry, and the latter will have an NMC chemistry, and both of these will be paired to the front-mounted motor.

The 37 kWh motor delivers 116 hp and 135 hp in the base and top trims, while in tandem with the 52 kWh battery, the drivetrain is able to churn out 211 hp of power along with a maximum output of 290 Nm. WLTP range is forecasted at up to 316 km and 436 km for the 37 kWh and 52 kWh battery pack variants, respectively.

Volkswagen claims a top speed of 150 kph for the 37 kWh variant, while the 52 kWh variant tops out at 160 kph. Both the variants also support DC fast charging at speeds of up to 90 kW and 105 kW, respectively.

Volkswagen ID Cross platform and exterior details

The ID Cross has been based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, which will also be shared with the upcoming ID Polo. While the model showcased was camouflaged, images of the ID Cross reveal that the car would have angular headlamps with inverted air intake slats on the bumper. The alloy wheels are sized from 17 to 20 inches. At the back, the VW ID also gets LED tail lamps. The front fascia will further be garnered with connected LED DRLs and illuminated logos, along with matrix LED headlamps.

The dashboard is expected to have soft-touch inserts and physical buttons on the steering wheel and centre console. Other features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch infotainment cluster, along with dual-zone AC, adaptive cruise control, and a rear-view camera. Customers will get optional extras such as a Harman Kardon audio system and 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with massage and memory functions.

The ID Cross is expected to be launched by Volkswagen somewhere between September and November. Considering the increasing demand for EV vehicles, Volkswagen might launch the ID Cross in India as well, although it has not confirmed it.
