The Volvo S90 and V90 cars score the coveted 5-star safety rating from Euro Ncap

If you’re in the market for the safest car around, it’s going to be hard to beat the Volvo S90 and V90. Both these cars have earned the coveted Euro Ncap 5 star rating.The Volvo S90 is a saloon while the V90 is an estate car. According to Top Examiner, these are the first cars to be tested on via Euro Ncap’s 2017 test process. In fact, the ratings for these cars surpass that of any car tested in 2016.Some of the highest rated cars of last year include the Toyota Prius, the Hyundai Ioniq and the Volkswagen Tiguan.As we reported earlier, the Volvo V90 might come to India with a 2-litre, four-cylinder engine in a 250bhp or 316bhp variant depending on whether you’ve gone for the turbocharged model or the supercharged one. All-wheel drive is expected to be a standard feature.The Volvo S90 saloon is also available with a 2-litre diesel engine with 190bhp of power, an 8-speed automatic transmission.Euro Ncap, short for European New Car Assessment Programme is a safety rating system that’s backed by many European governments. Testing under this programme is voluntary.The testing process is quite comprehensive and looks at more than just passenger safety. The gamut of tests include pedestrian protection and even the implementation of crash avoidance technologies.Cars rated 5-stars can safely be considered to be the safest cars on the roads today, for passengers as well as pedestrians.
