New Volkswagen Tiguan SUV to launch in India today: Specifications, features, pricing

Everyone's excited to learn about Volkswagen's upcoming full-size SUV, the Tiguan. The Tiguan will be announced today at a media event and so will the prices of the different models. Here's what we know about the variants that will arrive in India.The new Tiguan is built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, which is also present on the Skoda Kodiaq and Audi’s Q2 crossover. The full-size SUV by Volkswagen India is expected to be announced in two trim variants, Comfortline and Highline.In terms of design, the Indian version of the Tiguan will look exactly the same as the international version. So you can expect projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights,  a sculpted front bumper with a wide central air dam, two smaller air intakes on either side and horizontal LED fog lamps. The Comfortline trim is expected to get 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Highline variant could get larger 18-inch wheels.Depending on the variants, the SUV will come equipped with a 5-inch or a bigger 8-inch infotainment display loaded with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLink and other services.At launch, the SUV is expected to be offered in a 2.0-litre diesel engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox along with an all-wheel-drive system with a separate off-road mode selector dial. The engine is expected to produce 148 bhp and 304 Nm. There is also a 1.4 litre TSI petrol unit developing 147hp and 250Nm of torque.According to a source, a dealership in New Delhi has opened up bookings for the upcoming SUV at a minimum amount of Rs 1 lakh. The expected on-road price of the car will be between Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.Volkswagen recently announced a special limited edition Polo GT Sport in India priced at Rs 8.7 lakhs.
