The Mazda MX-5 has bagged the 2016 World Car of The Year award and the 2016 World Car Design of The Year award. It was awarded the prestigious title at a press conference during the ongoing 2016 New York International Auto Show.

For the 2016 World Car of The Year awards, initially 23 car models which are currently on sale globally were shortlisted. This list was then narrowed down to just 10 models and later just three finalists remained which included the Audi A4, Mazda MX-5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC.
