Maruti Suzuki set to unveil E100 flex-fuel vehicle on June 5: Here’s what to expect
Maruti Suzuki is set to launch one of India’s first E100 flex-fuel vehicles as the government intensifies its push toward ethanol-based mobility to reduce fuel imports
In a fresh bid to reduce dependence on imported fuel, the Indian government is accelerating its push toward E20 fuel mandates, an upgrade over the existing E10 standard. One of the first vehicles in India capable of running on E100 flex fuel by Maruti Suzuki is set to be unveiled on June 5, 2026. The announcement was recently made by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari during an event in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
Speaking at the event, Gadkari said, “Vehicles with such flex-fuel engines are going to be introduced on a large scale soon. On the occasion of Environment Day this year, there is a programme in Delhi where Maruti Suzuki will launch vehicles running 100% on ethanol.”
He further added, “At present, companies such as Toyota, Tata, Mahindra, and Suzuki — a total of 12 companies — have already introduced such vehicles. Our two-wheelers have also arrived. We should minimise the use of petrol, diesel, and gas because 87% of these fuels are imported into our country. They not only cause pollution but also increase imports.”
More from AutoEarlier, Suzuki had showcased a flex-fuel iteration of the Fronx subcompact SUV at last year’s Japan Mobility Show 2025, alongside a range of other two- and four-wheelers, including a compressed biogas-powered Burgman scooter. Suzuki had not revealed the ethanol blend rating of the Fronx Flex Fuel at the time, but another model displayed alongside it — a flex-fuel variant of the Gixxer 250 — was E85 compliant.
The Suzuki Fronx is currently offered with either a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with both manual and automatic transmission options. Compared to the India-spec model, the Fronx sold in Japan is equipped with a larger 1.5-litre K-series petrol engine paired with manual and automatic gearbox options.
