‘Made in India’ Mercedes-Benz GLC launches at Rs 47.90 lakh

Making its debut just four months back in India, German car maker Mercedes-Benz announced the launch of its locally made GLC on Thursday. With this launch, India is now the only country outside the US to locally produce the SUV.Speaking at the launch, Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said that the company has India on its priority. He also emphasised the momentum that the brand has seen in the country in the last decade. "We began local production of our cars in 1995 with the E-Class. From then on, it has been a wonderful journey for us and I can proudly say that our cars produced here give us immense satisfaction. Localisation has helped us in cutting costs and has helped us in cutting costs and deliver on boosting local resources. We now have nine models which have been produced from our plant here in Pune,"The new locally-made GLC will be available in three variants: GLC 220d 4MATIC Style – priced at Rs 47.90 lakh, GLC 220d 4MATIC Sport – priced at Rs 51.5 lakh and the GLC 300 4MATIC Sport at Rs 51.9 lakh.The GLC features permanent 4MATIC all-wheel drive and a Dynamic Select Controller with five driving modes – Comfort, Eco, Sport+ and Individual. It also features the lightest body-shell in its segment and is 80kg lighter than its global predecessor, the GLK Class. With the GLC, Mercedes-Benz now has nine products rolling out from its plant in Chakan located on the outskirts of Pune.
