Kia Sonet upgrade likely by 2027: New platform and tech updates expected

After refreshing the Seltos lineup recently, Kia is now gearing up to start working on the all-new second-generation Sonet. With the new-gen refresh, the Sonet is expected to undergo a design overhaul along with a longer list of features. An Autocar report reveals that the new-generation Sonet will be underpinned by the Syros platform. With an overall platform swap, the new Kia Seltos will be able to attain a bunch of new electric equipment it missed out on till now.

The new K1 base will support the latest electrical and electronics architecture, enabling over-the-air updates and remote diagnostics. While the car would sport a completely new styling  it would continue to provide the same engine choices.

The engine options will include an 83 hp, 1.2-litre petrol, a 120 hp, 1-litre turbo petrol, and a 116 hp, 1.5-litre diesel along with their respective transmission choices. Kia might also add a strong hybrid powertrain to the Sonet as well.

Possible Interior Updates for the Next-Gen Model

To ensure that the new-gen Sonet has a myriad of interior updates to take on new competitors, Kia would update the existing 10.25-inch screens with newer, bigger screens. Beyond that, Level 2 ADAS with other safety add-ons would also be included.

The safety quotient would increase with a platform shift since both Syros as well as the Venue, based on the K1 platform, have scored 5-star safety ratings in crash tests. With the possible addition of a new hybrid setup, the Sonet would become a more compelling package.

The Sonet currently competes with the likes of the Tata Nexon, Skoda Kylaq, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Mahindra XUV 3XO. The platform update has already been a success with the Venue, and a similar change is expected with the new Sonet.
