Jeep Compass to start from Rs 16 lakh as introductory price at August launch

After the pricey Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, Jeep indeed wants to cement its place in India's SUV market by offering its upcoming Jeep Compass at just Rs 16 lakh.The price, which was first revealed by Overdrive, hints that the C-segment SUV will come at this attractive price, but just for a short while as an introductory offer.So far, the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler have arrived as CBUs, which is why the high price tags that start from 71 lakh (and goes into crores for the high-end trims) thanks to the customs duties and other taxes that fall in. With the Compass, things will be different as Jeep will be building them at Fiat Chrysler's Ranjangaon facility and will even source parts locally for the same.This seems good enough to bring the price tag down to Rs 16 lakh, but expect that price to shoot up by quite a margin when the introductory offer is expires.The 2017 Jeep Compass will soon arrive to a number of markets globally. Internationally, the all-new Jeep Compass comes with a total of five engine options including three petrol and two diesel variants, across different international markets. These include a 1.4 multiair turbo, a 1.6 and 2.0 turbo diesel, 2.4 tigershark petrol, 2.0 tigershark flex fuel (ethanol), and transmissions include a 6-speed manual/auto, and a 9 speed auto. The model coming to India is expected to arrive with a 2-litre Multijet diesel that develops 165PS of power and 350Nm of torque.
