Jeep Compass India launch to take place on 12 April: Expected specs, pricing, features

Apart from the refreshed design, compared to the previous model, the new Jeep Compass will also go big on safety and is said to provide more than fifty safety features.

After what appeared to be a never ending wait, Jeep India will finally be launching its much-awaited SUV, the new Jeep Compass on 12 April. The news comes after plenty of leaks, a global announcement and some added testing to ensure that this Jeep does not fail on Indian soil.Jeep India has even put out a teaser video (shown below) along with a webpage that points to a registration page. No details about the Indian model have been made official, and the vehicle looks identical to the global model.2017 Jeep Compass (5)Indeed, Jeep Compass is a big deal for India. That's because the Compass will be manufactured locally in India. Jeep also revealed that the Compass will receive around 75-80 percent localisation that should help bring down its price tag as compared to the CBU's like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler that were launched in August last year.2017 Jeep Compass (3)Apart from the refreshed design, compared to the previous model, the new Jeep Compass will also go big on safety and is said to provide more than fifty safety features. Inside, expect a roomy cabin with a 7-inch infotainment system that should pair well with Android Auto and Apple's Car Play. Other goodies inlcude, key-less entry, a cap-less fuel system and a power tailgate. You will get about 438 litres of boot space in the new Jeep Compass.2017 Jeep Compass (4)Internationally, the all-new Jeep Compass comes with a total of five engine options including three petrol and two diesel variants, across different international markets. These include a 1.4 multi air turbo, a 1.6 and 2.0 turbo diesel, 2.4 tigershark petrol, 2.0 tigershark flex fuel (ethanol), and transmissions include a 6-speed manual/auto, and a 9 speed auto. The model coming to India is expected to arrive with a 2-litre Multijet diesel that develops 165 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque.Coming to the price tags, Overdrive earlier, hinted that the C-segment SUV will come at an attractive price of Rs 16 lakh, but just for a short while as an introductory offer. Official price tags are expected to start from Rs 20 lakh and will increase depending on the trim chosen.
