From Maybach VLS to AMG GT Black Series: What Mercedes has planned for 2026

Mercedes has multiple launches in the pipeline for this year, the German brand has revealed its profound plans to tantalize enthusiasts ahead of the S-Class Maybach launch. Well, the S-Class would not be the only illustrious addition to the Maybach clan this year, as Mercedes is also planning to launch a new VLS, a Grand Limousine, as established by the brand. The VLS will be a range-topping version of the standard VLS.

The Maybach S-Class will sit in the line-up alongside the Maybach S-Class and GLS. The uptick in demand for MPVs, both in India and several markets globally, has brought Mercedes to revamp its offerings. The reintroduction of the V-Class to India to sit against the likes of the Toyota Vellfire is a resolute indicator of the rising demand in the segment. This is the first time that a Mercedes MPV will undergo the Maybach treatment. The standard VLS is likely to enter production towards the end of 2026, followed by Mercedes Maybach a year later.

Interior and tech updates

Opulence and luxury are qualities synonymous with the Maybach brand. The new addition will offer two sets of opposing captain seats in the back. The VLS will be offered with a bunch of convenience-related features, such as a retractable 65-inch cinema display, a 42-speaker surround sound system with Dolby Atmos, Nappa leather upholstery, and ambient lighting.

Beyond luxury: an AMG GT Black Series in works as well

Beyond the VLS, Mercedes has also confirmed the launch of a track-focused Black Series variant of the second-gen GT coupe. The coupe will be developed jointly with the performance division’s GT3 race car. The upcoming GT variant is touted as Mercedes-AMG’s most hardcore Black Series offering till date. The GT3 racer is expected to compete in 2027; both it and the new GT Black Series are likely to be unveiled this year.

Performance Highlights

The new GT Black Series is likely to be powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a 48V mild hybrid system. Expect performance figures upwards of 730 hp and 800 Nm from its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. Going by the new exterior changes, it seems that the car would retain its quintessential GT look, with a sprawling bonnet that helps manage the placement of weight distribution and grip. Expect all accoutrements of fast supercars, such as active aero, larger wings, and diffusers.
