Ferrari LaFerrari fetches a record $7 million at earthquake relief fund auction

After the announcement by Ferrari Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne about an extra special 500th Ferrari LaFerrari, there's now finally some news about its success. Ferrari in association with RM Sotheby's managed to sell the special 500th Ferrari LaFerrari for $7 million. The auction was held at RM Sotheby’s and was done so in collaboration with the  National Italian American Foundation’s Earthquake Relief Fund, which is where the proceeds of the sale go.The price achieved represents a record for the most valuable 21^st Century automobile ever sold at an auction. According to Ferrari, all proceeds will go towards the reconstruction efforts to the areas affected by the earthquake.A few details were shared about the hypercar itself. The special LaFerrari comes with a very unique livery with an Italian theme. The exterior remains simply red, while there is a white dream line on the hood which continues past the cockpit on to the rear windshield. Then there's the most important detail which sits at the very front. A small Italian flag on the front tip of the hood. Also featured is a commemorative plaque.Ferrari's announcement to build an auction a 500th Ferrari LaFerrari itself was on the occassion of the bilateral summit between the Italian and German governments which took place in the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy.
