Elon Musk reveals next gen Tesla roadster will debut in April this year: Everything you need to know

The Roadster has been a Halo vehicle for Tesla, since its launch in the year 2008; it has been at the forefront of Tesla’s lineup. Throughout its journey, the Roadster moniker has been able to bring swarms of sales for the Elon Musk headed brandt.

While the Auto enthusiasts had their eyes peeled for the next generation of the Tesla roadster to break cover soon, Elon Musk has stepped in to break the angst with his latest X post.

In a recent post, Elon Musk revealed that the new iteration of the Roadster will be unveiled soon in April.

The Roadster is known for its impressive performance specs of being able to achieve 0 to 60MPH within 1.9 seconds and, beyond that, reach a top speed of 250 mph. The roadster stands apart from the other vehicles in the range with its sleek sports car design and a massive ability to produce a whopping 10,000 nm of peak torque at the wheels.

The Roadster is one of the fastest cars in the Tesla lineup, its veritable performance figures set it class apart from other performance oriented EV’s in the market. How the brand proceeds to top its existing performance prowess is yet to be seen.

Tesla roadster history and development over the years

The first prototypes of the Tesla Roadster were revealed on July 19, 2006, in Santa Monica, California. The brand went on to produce 500 similar vehicles through June 2009. In the year 2009, Tesla began production of its 2010 model year roadster.

In May of 2009, Tesla recalled 345 of its roadsters that were manufactured before April 22, 2009. Tesla sent technicians to the owner's home to tighten the rear inner bulb flange bolts. The roadster lineup became profitable for the brand in July 2009.

Progressing along the way, Tesla Roadster sales were halted in the U.S. after December 2011. After that, in the year 2016, Tesla began selling a battery upgrade for the roaster that took its KWH figures from 53 to 80kwh.

In an earlier post on X way back in the year 2024, Musk had revealed how the design goals for the new Tesla roadster had been radically revamped. In his iconic manner, the business magnate had said: “There will never be another car like this, if you could even call it a car.”

Musk has been tweeting resolutely about the performance abilities of the new Roadster. In a post that he made months back, he posted a GIF of a vehicle levitating and stated, “The new Roadster will actually do something like this.”

Probably surprised by this technology Youtuber Marques Brownlee responded: “The thing is I feel like you’re not joking.”

To which Musk had replied, ‘I’m not. Will use SpaceX cold gas thruster system with ultra high pressure air in a composite over-wrapped pressure vessel in place of the 2 rear seats.’

If that was not all, Elon had also claimed that The 0to 60 Time of the New Roadster would be less than 1 second. He further added, ‘And that is the least interesting part.’

While all of this could be Hyperbole, Elon Musk is not known for making hollow claims. These claims might be his way of saying that Tesla has scrapped the earlier Roadster and is building a completely new one from scratch.
