CES 2017: TriLumina to showcase 256-Pixel 3D Solid-State LiDAR autonomous car system

The year 2016 saw a number of automobile makers as well as independent companies announcing concepts for autonomous cars as well as standalone systems. The upcoming year is expected to see a huge increase in this field and a company called TriLumina has already announced its own concept.TriLumina is based out of Sandia National Laboratories and it will be showcasing its 256-pixel, 3D LiDAR system in collaboration with LeddarTech at the upcoming CES 2017 show in January. According to the company's press release, the system can be used in self-driving vehicle tech which uses TriLumina’s laser illumination module along with with LeddarTech’s LeddarCore ICs. These laser based illumination modules could prove to be quite useful. Not only can they potentially replace bulky and expensive LiDAR systems commonly used in today's self-driving vehicle systems, they can also effectively reduce costs of making such self-driving car systems.Brian Wong, CEO at TriLumina said, “At TriLumina, we are building complete Illumination modules with our patented, back-emitting, flip-chip VCSEL arrays and driver circuits to provide the highest efficiency and most powerful illumination solutions available. The 3D solid-state LiDAR solutions presented at CES will demonstrate the incredible capabilities of our laser solutions and how they can be rapidly deployed to enable new signal processing capabilities such as those in the LeddarCore ICs.”
