A unique approach as an independent carmaker has led the Bovensiepen family to unveil the Zagato Coupé, a bespoke creation that is nearly four times more expensive than the BMW M4 it is based on. As reported by Autocar UK, this special M4 spin-off, limited to just 99 units globally, was showcased at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy last year. The car is named after the renowned Italian design house Zagato, which has styled the vehicle while incorporating significant changes to both its design and mechanical setup.

The Bovensiepen Zagato is priced in Germany from €369,495 (around Rs4.07 crore), making it almost four times as expensive as the M4. and this isnt the only special BMW on the horizon as with Alpina now under BMW ownership, future Alpina models are expected to be positioned as more performance-oriented, comfort-focused alternatives within BMW’s lineup. Models such as the 7 Series and the X7 are expected to be among the first to be reintroduced under this strategy.

The Special Design

The new Zagato Coupé features completely redesigned front and rear sections, a revised side profile, and the signature double-bubble roof. The car is packed with bespoke components, with around 250 hours spent on handcrafted elements for each unit at its facility. Each of the 99 coupes will be built to order, allowing customers to customise their vehicles down to the finest details, including finishes, carbon fibre elements, and brake calipers.

Deliveries of the Bovensiepen Zagato are expected to begin later this year.

Bovensiepen Zagato: Engine and Performance

The Zagato is powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six-cylinder engine producing 611 hp and 700 Nm of peak torque. Bovensiepen claims a 0–100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h.

Enhancing performance, the car also features bespoke Bilstein dampers with Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus modes, along with a lightweight titanium exhaust system from Akrapovič.

As a highly customised, limited-run vehicle based on the already capable M4, it commands a significantly higher price. Bovensiepen’s engineering, combined with Italian design, makes the car a striking blend of Bavarian precision and unmistakable Italian flair. For years, Zagato has crafted special projects for brands such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Maserati, Spyker, and Alfa Romeo. Since these vehicles are built as exclusive, ground-up projects, they are often far more expensive than their base models, with rarity further driving up their value.
