BMW group India posts record H1 2026 sales as EV demand continues to grow
BMW posts record first-half sales in India as EVs, long-wheelbase models, and SUVs drive strong demand.

BMW has posted its highest-ever first-half sales in India, with strong demand for electric vehicles, long-wheelbase models, and SUVs helping the German luxury carmaker deliver record numbers.
The German luxury carmaker said the strong performance was driven by growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs), long-wheelbase models, and sport utility vehicles (SUVs).
BMW delivered 9,075 cars between January and June 2026, marking a 17% year-on-year increase over the same period last year. The company also recorded its best-ever second quarter in India, retailing 4,507 vehicles between April and June, up 17% year-on-year.
The figures also underscore the continued growth of the luxury EV segment. BMW sold 2,359 electric vehicles during the first six months of the year, registering a 78% year-on-year increase compared with the corresponding period last year. EVs accounted for 26% of the company's total sales, meaning more than one in every four BMWs sold in India during H1 2026 was electric.
With these numbers, BMW retained its position as India's largest luxury EV brand, commanding a 69% market share.
Long-wheelbase models and SUVs continue to drive growth
Demand for long-wheelbase models remained another key growth driver. BMW sold 4,428 long-wheelbase vehicles during the first half of 2026, registering a 24% year-on-year increase. The lineup, comprising extended-wheelbase sedans and SUVs, accounted for 52% of the company's passenger vehicle sales in India during the period.
The company's SUV portfolio also continued to perform strongly. BMW and MINI SUVs together recorded 5,926 unit sales in H1 2026, up 35% year-on-year, accounting for 65% of the company's total sales volume.
MINI posts strong growth
BMW's sister brand, MINI, also delivered a strong performance, retailing 504 vehicles between January and June 2026, representing more than 70% year-on-year growth.
The company attributed the growth to a series of special editions launched this year, including the MINI Cooper S Victory Edition and the MINI Convertible JCW.
Beyond new product launches, MINI is also expanding its presence in India through its Retail.Next initiative.
Under the programme, the company is creating future-ready retail spaces designed to offer an enhanced customer experience. MINI plans to establish new retail outlets in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ranchi, Guwahati, Surat, Vijayawada, and Lucknow, while further strengthening its presence in key markets such as Mumbai, Pune, and Gurugram.
