US launches fresh strikes on Iran as Trump warns retaliation for deaths of soldiers

The US military said it has launched another round of strikes against Iran, marking the 10th consecutive night of attacks aimed at "further degrading" Tehran's ability to target ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest strikes came after US President Donald Trump vowed to retaliate for the deaths of three American soldiers, warning that Iran would pay "many times over". Earlier, Trump said Iran had been hit "very hard" the previous night "in honour" of the US troops killed, two in Jordan and one in Iraq. Iranian military and communications sites were among the targets.

Iran responded by saying it had launched attacks on sites in Bahrain, Jordan and Syria. President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that the country was now fighting a "full-scale war" with the US.

Despite the escalating hostilities, Tehran said diplomatic messages continued to be exchanged through intermediaries, even after the collapse of the ceasefire.

Elsewhere in the region, Jordan's military said it intercepted three Iranian missiles late on Monday after air raid sirens warned of incoming fire.

Earlier, Kuwait's armed forces said they had shot down Iranian drones, while Bahrain said drones launched by Iran had targeted its air navigation systems. Authorities added that air traffic remained unaffected.

According to Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency, overnight US strikes hit several cities, including Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Mahshahr and Bandar Imam Khomeini.

Iranian state media also reported that two oil tankers exploded while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the vessels were travelling through what it described as an "unsafe and hazardous southern route" of the strait and "exploded and were brought to a halt". The US Central Command (Centcom) disputed the claim.

US base in Kuwait attacked

The Iranian army said early Tuesday it had targeted a US base in Kuwait with missiles, as President Masoud Pezeshkian said the conflict had morphed into a "full-scale war".

"The army's ground forces targeted the HIMARS missile systems of the US terrorist army stationed at the Arifjan base in Kuwait with surface-to-surface missiles," state news agency IRNA said, quoting the army's public relations officials.

"HIMARS is a mobile missile system with the ability to move quickly against ground targets, which, when targeted, causes damage to the offensive and defensive layers and reduces the enemy's missile power in aggressive crimes," it said.
