Karnataka man killed in Nepal, roommate accused of knife attack

A 25-year-old man from Karnataka's Belagavi, Sahil Riyaz Ahmed Momin, has died from stab wounds in Nepal's Jhapa district.

Indian and Nepali authorities suspect that Sahil's roommate, Saddam Hussain, stabbed him following an argument. Saddam is currently at large.

A native of Uttar Pradesh, Saddam is suspected to have fled from Nepal into UP, according to The New Indian Express.

Belagavi police have shared Saddam's photograph and other relevant details with the UP Police to assist in apprehending him.

Victim stabbed after argument

Sahil worked at a hotel in Jhapa. After settling there, he invited a friend from Belagavi to join him for work.

The friend stayed with Sahil and his roommate Saddam.

That evening, Sahil and Saddam got into an argument, but the situation was temporarily resolved with the intervention of the friend.

Later that night, however, Saddam allegedly attacked Sahil with a knife while he was asleep. Sahil's friend reportedly tried to catch Saddam but he managed to flee. The Nepali authorities have launched a search for him.

The New Indian Express reported that Sahil was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Sahil's family has been in touch with Belagavi police and is coordinating with Nepali authorities to complete the necessary formalities and bring his body back to India for the last rites. The New Indian Express reported that Sahil's father, brother, and other relatives have left for Nepal to bring the body home.

Family and friends told the newspaper that Sahil was a calm and soft-spoken young man. He had previously worked in Dubai and Thailand before moving to Nepal around 25 days before his death.
