Iran receives 10-day ceasefire proposal to revive peace deal with US: Report

Iran has received a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire in an effort to revive the interim peace deal with the United States, according to Reuters.

A senior Iranian official told the news agency on Monday that mediators had shared a proposal with Iran to de-escalate the war with the United States through a 10-day ceasefire, allowing both sides to explore ways of reviving an interim deal reached last month.

The report came hours after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Iran had received "some proposals" from mediators. He did not go into the specifics of the propsoals.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio also hinted that the United States and Iran were open to finding a negotiated settlement to the conflict. But he stressed that the regime remained deeply divided between those who favoured talks and those who preferred war. He also said Iran needed to change its behaviour by halting its ongoing attacks to give diplomacy a chance.

The remarks by Baghaei and Rubio came as the United States and Iran entered the 10th day of renewed hostilities. The US Central Command said it had concluded the latest round of attacks on Iran at 10 pm on Sunday, targeting military command centres, air-defence and coastal-surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks to "further diminish Iran's ability to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners" in the Strait of Hormuz.

For its part, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran claimed it had destroyed an early-warning radar system in a drone strike and targeted an aviation equipment warehouse and a hangar housing US MQ-9 drones at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait in the latest round of attacks.

Separately, air-raid sirens were activated in Bahrain, where the authorities said the air-defence system had repelled Iranian attacks. It was not immediately clear what exactly Iran had targeted in the country.

Iranian attacks have killed at least three US soldiers in Jordan in recent days, wounded dozens, and destroyed or damaged multiple helicopters and fighter aircraft. The New York Times has reported that at least 29 US personnel were injured in attacks on bases in Jordan and that a "significant" number of helicopters were damaged. Separately, the IRGC has claimed it destroyed at least two US fighter aircraft on Saturday at Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan.
